How much is a DFG grant?

The maximum grant payable under a disabled facilities grant (DFG) in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire is £30,000. The grant will only be paid when the local authority is satisfied that the work has been completed to their satisfaction and in accordance with the grant approval.

Who qualifies for DFG?

A DFG is only available to people who are disabled within the meaning of the National Assistance Act 1948. This means that a DFG will not be granted to a person who is merely elderly or retired. In addition, a DFG is only available to pay for alterations to a disabled person's main residence.

Do you have to pay back a DFG?

If you are an owner-occupier, and you receive a DFG for more than £5,000, the council will place a land charge on the property for 10 years. Therefore, if you sell the property within 10 years of the adaptation's completion date, then RAS-HIA can request for the sum of monies to be repaid if the grant was over £5,000.

What does a DFG cover?

Disabled Facilities Grants can be used to pay for works such as widening doorways and installing ramps for wheelchair access; improving or installing a suitable heating system; altering heating or lighting controls; providing access to bathroom facilities, either by means of a stair lift or a new ground floor bathroom, and many other adaptations to your home that improve its accessibility.

Can I get a grant to install a wet room?

If you're disabled, you are eligible to apply for funding to fit a wetroom in your home. It doesn't matter what age you are, you can receive financial help if you have a disability that requires you to make accessibility adaptations to your home. Many older people get a wetroom fitted as they become less mobile.
